In 2024 Premier Cook committed to delivering surrogacy reform once re-elected. With Labor controlling both the lower and upper houses, we have a small window of opportunity to deliver this critical legislation which will allow Western Australians to have children through surrogacy on Australian soil. The only way we can make this happen is by raising the issue with people in positions of power, our politicians. Please help in raising awareness of the need for change so that Western Australians access surrogacy in WA easily and safely, and live their dream of creating families.

The Surrogacy legislation is ready, and the WA Labor government has agreed to deliver it. We cannot delay any longer. Your support will raise the importance of delivering the legislation now, while Labor has control of the upper and lower houses.

I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent regarding the urgent need to implement Western Australia's surrogacy reforms. The law has not substantively changed since 2008, despite promises of real change over the last 8 to 12 years. It is now time to act.

The WA Government has a unique opportunity to secure majority support in both houses to implement these crucial reforms. This window of opportunity is closing, and I urge you to take action now by introducing the Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill in April/May 2025.

Delivering the bill after this date opens the legislation to oppositional changes, each of which could prevent Western Australians from creating families. The damage of a public campaign will have a detrimental impact on future generations of families and current families. Exposing WA families to this type of public intimidation and insult, as we saw with the gay marriage campaign, will be cruel and irreparable. This is not a risk that should be taken.

It is time for WA to demonstrate leadership, humility, and compassion.  Help create future generations of WA families and protect the integrity of current families created through surrogacy. I call on you to advocate for these reforms to happen now.
